Good luck with removing that tumour. There's a lot more pain yet to come, unfortunately. Logic, like yours, keeps being thrown at it but no one's listening. Makes you wonder if this whole thing is somehow being played out on some metaphysical plane.

in 1999 Gerhard Schroeder announces all nuclear will be shutdown in Germany by 2020 "replaced by wind & solar". [if you believe that I have 5 bridges to sell you, cheap]. Then just before Schroeder gets booted out of office he signs a $6B contract to build a NG pipeline from Russia to Germany with Gazprom, the Russia NG utility. Plus a $1.7B loan guaranteed by the German gov't. Then shortly after losing the election Schroeder signs on as a chairman with Gazprom at an undisclosed salary. And in 2003 Schroeder quashed an investigation into a company named SPAG in Frankfurt linked to money laundering in several countries run by St. Petersburg's Tambovskaya mafia group with links to Putin, who was on SPAG's advisory board. Schroeder remains on Gazprom's executive board.

FWIW I doubt Russia/Gazprom ha d anything to do with the Vermont Senator. I have an acquaintance with a major activist in Vermont who worked on getting their nuclear plant shut down. America has its very own fools. It started with the Manhattan physicists who decided to end the arms race. They scared JFK into the test ban with the Strontium-90 in baby teeth scare.

Union of Concerned Scientists and Bulletin of the atomic scientists has carried on from this powered by the LNT nonsense rammed through by Rockefeller in the late 1940's IIRC.

Generations now of health physicists indoctrinated in the LNT nonsense we have long known is false can't imagine that they have been taught a crock of nonsense. Physicians as well, although oncologists know it's bunk.

In the late 1960's it was popular and became part of the back to the land movement to hate nuclear power as the great evil. Stewart Brand was part of that, the Whole Earth Catalog guy.

Stewart later said it was one of his biggest mistakes to oppose nuclear power. But, funny thing. Somehow, anitnukes always get to politicians, and have their voices amplified. They even get paid millions (literally, recently) to compensate them for opposing nuclear power.

Who has heard that Stewart Brand is pro-nuclear outside of a small circle of people?

Koch brothers and pretty much every other executive in the coal, oil, and gas industry curate this you see. They backed David Brower to create Friends of the Earth (FoE) which he used to take over the Sierra Club and turn it anti-nuclear.

That's who is doing it in the USA.

perhaps not directly but the policy is a DNA match

Also, don't forget that Bernie is a politician. He's an idealistic one, but he votes for gun rights even though (rarely, makes noises about gun violence) because that's his constituents and he has to get elected. His constituents like his anti-nuclear stance.

Yes. But this is our clownshow, nobody else's.

European politicians who oppose nuclear energy should have their finances run through with a fine-toothed comb to check for Gazprom funding, and charged with treason if any such funding is found.
